Northern Kentucky Wedding Photography at Ft. Thomas | Amy and Jeff

Amy and Jeff met almost five years ago.  One of Amy's friends invited her to join a game night at her house, and that's where she met Jeff.  He was very quiet and shy at first, but did little things to try to impress her.  He finally worked up the nerve to ask her out, and after that they were inseparable.

Want to hear more of their wedding story? Keep reading! :) Amy will tell you all the details.

How/when/where did the proposal happen?  Jeff surprised me by taking me to 1861 Inn, a beautiful bed and breakfast in Batavia, OH.  I had no idea what we were doing that day, and was very surprised when we pulled up to a bed and breakfast.  After putting our bags (that Jeff secretly packed) in our room, we went down to the living room for wine by the fire.  There was a bouquet of flowers on the table with my name on it.  And that's when he asked me to marry him!  It was amazing!

What was the vision for your wedding, the style/color/scheme?  It was a vintage feel, with a Love Bird theme.  I wanted everything to look very soft and feel like spring, with lots of flowers.  The color scheme was mint, pale pink, gold, and ivory, with a few purple accents.

How many guests?  130

Why did you choose your wedding venue?  The venue fit the vintage feel, and I felt that it could be personalized to fit my vision.  It was also the perfect size to have both the wedding and reception.  I also thought it was neat that it had significance in my family.  My maternal grandfather left for Germany from the Mess Hall when he was drafted into the army in the 50's.  Also, my mom and dad used to play in the fort when they were younger, which is where the Mess Hall is located.  I've always thought that setting and building were beautiful.

Tell us about the ceremony: We designed our ceremony together, from the readings to the vows and everything in between, so it fit us perfectly.  We asked our friend Henry, one of Jeff's roommates in college, to officiate the ceremony, which made it feel more personal.  And my brother did our reading, which meant a lot to me.  Our wedding party was made up of some of our closest friends, with my sister being the Matron of Honor, and Jeff's twin brother as his Best Man.  We chose music and decorations to fit the theme and our personalities.  I walked down the aisle to an Elvis song (Can't Help Falling in Love with You) as a tribute to my mom, who has always loved Elvis.

Describe the reception: We did all the traditional things at the reception.  I really liked inviting the other fathers and daughters/mothers and sons to join in our dances, because it included them in that special moment.  I also loved our card box, which was an antique bird cage on a stand.  And we used tea cups instead of vases for flower arrangements on the head table.

Tell us about your floral arrangements: Peonies, lilacs, stock, baby's breath; girls bouquets had peonies, lilacs, and baby's breath; tea cups had ranunculus and lilacs; Jeff and I were the only ones to have succulents and purple stock in our flowers.  The flowers on the arch had baby's breath, tulips, lilacs, and stock.

What was the inspiration of your wedding cake?  I found a picture of a wedding cake with ruffles, and knew it was the one.  The ruffles fit the soft feeling of the wedding, and looked more vintage to me.  My sister made the love bird cake topper.  There were also peonies on the cake.

Describe the favors for guests:  To go with the love bird theme, we made heart shaped bird feeders.
